The Room Concept:  “Color in a powder room can be grand, but a bold colored wallcovering for your powder room can be even grander. We love this hand painted wall covering by Gracie in the deep teal color. It translated so well in the power room featured in Architectural Digest. The lucite legs, bronze mirror and wall sconces come together to compliment the Chinoiserie design.”

The Room Concept:  “A designer gender neutral room that is darling and whimsical with colours that can easily transcend different ages.” This baby nursery was designed specifically with the details in mind from the upholstered tufted rocking chair to the silver metallic pouf sitting upon a silk delicate area rug. The artwork inspiration from the Keller family photo shoot is what really influenced this elegant spin on a baby’s haven. Its about reinvention and serenity. A baby’s nursery should be a place of calmness and peace, a space where an angel will sleep.

The Room Concept:  “I live in a ground floor condo because I have Parkinson’s and because the gardens outside my window are spectacular (photography is my second love!). I love colour and I use it to express my love of nature. I paint with acrylic on canvas, with Breeeze on walls…even on rocks! I admit that I like the colours the previous owner used, but it is a bit dull (shades of gray & brown.I want my paintings to pop on the wall. It has to be fab but functional (1100) sq ft. and make my 2 month old grandson feel welcome! A place for my teacher/husband to relax! By the way, I am a young 54!PLease help! I can’t paint a straight line anymore!!!

Sue, making your room a bright canvas for your artwork was the first priority in doing this design concept. You want your art to be the life of the space, it is what makes you happy, and it is truly a part of you. Huronia CL 3113W would be a beautiful colour for your space. A light soft blue will not only compliment the blues in your artwork, but it will emulate a “daylight” brightness in your home, even when the sun isn’t always shining. If there are pieces you want to especially highlight, I suggest the artwork lighting. It works well in the evenings by bringing extra light into the space.

For the rest of the space, you will want to keep the bigger pieces more neutral, in order to let the art take center stage. Of course, you can still bring colour in with pillows, throws and an area rug. For the sofa, I would recommend a cool neutral with a blueish gray undertone. The best material would beUltrasuede, not only is it soft to touch, but it is easy to clean if there are any spills from your grandson (or husband :) . I also, recommend pieces of furniture that are durable such as a raw finished cocktail table and metal end tables. You won’t have to worry about scratches or water marks. Natural wood and a bright space will make you feel like you are bringing the outdoors inside.

If there is a place for a console table, these are great for placing artwork above and can really make a nice entry setting into a room.

Home Office Makeover

Pierette from Toronto submitted her home makeover project. She is “redoing her husband’s office and looking to add colour while keeping it calm and refreshing”.

We loved her submission and wanted to Stylyze it so that she would have a complete design concept.

Based on Pierette’s description of the mood she wants to evoke in this space, we selected a colour palette that is calm and refreshing while still masculine.

Below is our full Stylyzed concept inspired by the colour palette above, including decor and accessories.
